hello

my winXP wont boot.
i get taken to a screen during the boot up process which
tells of an error that was maybe caused by a recent instal
or similar.
i loaded office 2000 recently but that is all.
at the boot-up screen i have 5 options,
start in safe mode,
start as normal,
start with command prompt
start by using best last configuration
i dont recall the other.
i have chosen them all one by one but i keep returning to the same
options.
does anyone know what is going on.

thanks

griff

If you have a Windows cd you can do a repair install as Will suggests. If
you do not have a Windows cd but only a restore cd set then you should
consult the computer's manual for options.

Do you have Service Pack 2 installed for your Windows XP? If so then
one of the options on the Startup Menu should be "disable automatic
restart on system failure" or words to that effect. That is the one
you should choose.

If that option is not on the startup menu or if using it does not make
any difference then the Repair Install as described in the other
reponses is going to be your best option.

Good luck

You can make a slipstreamed xp cd as follows:

Download Autosteamer from http://www.autopatcher.com/autostreamer.html and
install it.

Download the Network version of SP2 to your desktop from:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...BE-3B8E-4F30-8245-9E368D3CDB5A&displaylang=en
(paste into your browser address bar, removing any spaces)

Run Autostreamer. Put the cd in your drive. Autostreamer should just find
it.

Tell autostreamer where the SP2 download is (desktop).

Tell autostreamer to put the resulting .iso file on the desktop.

When autostreamer finishes, copy the .iso to a cd with Roxio or Nero. It is
already bootable, so don't use the Roxio or Nero "make bootable" function.
