Stuck in hibernation-Quick Play loop

Our HP laptop will not turn on except by touching the Media
button light which opens HP Quick Play. On that screen you can
click on the Windows "flag" logo but instead of opening Window
XP, you go into Windows hibernation. No escape, Fn, F8 or any of
those combined with esc will work.

So you might say we're stuck in a loop between HP Quick Play and
Windows hibernation and don't know how we got there!

Thanks,

HP DV6000 QuickPlay Hibernation Loop

I have this same issue. Power button & speakers not working due to broken ZIF cable. Use QuickPlay launch button to start QuickPlay. Press ESC and then click on the Windows logo to go to Windows. Notebook then goes into hibernation and shuts down. Googling led me to a bit about the QuickPlay boot partition always goes from/into hibernation so that it is always "running" which allows the quick startup of the QuickPlay application. After trying various buttons, I have found that if I hold down the F12 and then press the DVD button and keep holding the F12, the notebook will start to boot and then shut down. Then I press the DVD button again and wait for the Windows logo boot page (whatever it's called) to appear at which time I again hold down the F12 key. Then it skips QuickPlay and goes right to the Windows desktop. I have absolutely no idea why or how this works, but I have been able to recreate it several times. Could end up being something else entirely that makes this work, perhaps I lean on the keyboard or hold my mouth a certain way.... Well, if others try it and it works - great! If anyone knows WHY this works, please educate me! What I'd like to do is change the notebook to boot from the regular XP partition when I press the DVD button. Anyone know how to make it do that?
