I was having a problem with Acrobat reader. I could not
open a PDF file at all. I decided to install another copy
of Acrobat reader 5 (having had no fortune with Acrobat
reader 6). The installation was unsuccessful. I got a pop-
up window stating that some of my system files had been
changed by the install and I could have some instabilities
unless I restored them to their former state. I put in the
Win 2000 CD it asked for but it said that it was the wrong
CD. My only option was to cancel. The system did in fact
become unstable immediately after. I decided to run the
Win 2000 install from within Windows. It appeared to be
going along fine until the reboot, at which time I got a
blue screen that starts off "Windows 2000 Professional
Setup". The body reads "Setup cannot locate the Windows
installation you want to upgrade. Contact your system
administrator.

Try booting from the win2k cd
then see if you can perform and "in-place" upgrade...
it should resotore your system
but you may need to re-apply your windows updates

See Knowledge Base article 292175 How to Perform an In-Place Upgrade of
Windows 2000 (http://support.microsoft.com/?id=292175) for detailed steps to
perform the process.
