Hello,

I re-installed XP PRO and forgot to release the
permissions on a folder with on some important documents
that was missed in a previous back up. Now I can't enter
the folder even though I have the same user name and
password.

HELP :-(

Found the solutions and is posting it here for others
benefit and to make sure noone spends time on it.

I was on XP PRO with a network without domain. The
solution to having denied access to folders
made "private" in a previous installation is this:

Windows Explorer -> Tools -> Folder Options -> UNCHECK
Use Simple Folder Permissions.

The Security tab will then appear in the Properties when
right clicking the stuck folder. There you can Add your
self (you got to be in admin mode to do this). It will
warn you that you cannot change the permission but you
can take charge, which is just fine. You can change the
permsission afterwards.

I am having a similar problem. I don't understand your
suggestion. If I go to Windows Explorer -> Tools ->
Folder Options, it brings up the Folder Options window,
but I don't see "Use Simple Folder Permissions" any
where. Which tab is it on? Any ideas?
