Stuck checking newsgroups

BACKGROUND: Lately I've noticed that when I check my email
Windows Mail seems to be stopped/stuck while checking a
newsgroup for new messages. I've discovered that it may be
in that mode (checking a particular newsgroup) for over an
hour. I solve the problem at the time by clicking stop, and
then it checks for messages and I find a number of messages
sent over the previous hour or more.

I know of the setting to determine how often to check my
server for email. Is there another setting somewhere that
determines how often the newsgroups are checked? I'd be
happy to have the newsgroups checked only when I open a
newsgroup, but I don't know how to do that.

Insight appreciated.

1. Don't configure any newsgroups to sync when you do a Send/Receive.

2. Don't do a Send/Receive any more frequently than every 15 minutes.

I have no idea how to "configure (a) newsgroup to sync", or
to undo that process if that is the default, or if at some
earlier time I accidently clicked something to cause that.

I'd appreciate directions to "un-sync", or other steps to
correct the original problem.

Thanks.

Thanks. In mail click tools/accounts/you will see internet accounts
window.It has news and mail.Highlight the news account/click properties/in
properties under general tab, make sure the box is unchecked, next
to(include this account when checking for new messages.
If you want to check your mail when you open mail.Check box and it will
download mail while opening.

Hope this helps.I have my mail set to check every 5 minutes. If I had
newsgroups set to download like mail,it would be checking for a long long
time.

How do you set the frequency of newsgroup downloads?

Thanks.

The default for newsgroups is not to synchronize.
To check your settings, right-click on a newsgroup,
select Synchronization Settings, Don't Synchronize.

See my other post in this thread. It is not necessary to
explicitly download newsgroup messages since the message body
will automatically download when you click on the header.
The headers download automatically when you click on the newsgroup.

I checked all my newsgroups, and none of them were
synchronized. What else might be causing my system to get
stuck checking newsgroups? (It appears to be just one
newsgroup that is causing the problem, and I'm tempted to
unsubscribe for a few days and then resubscribe, to see if
that fixes the problem.)

Thanks.

That's the only suggestion I can think of. Unsubscribe,
reboot, then resubscribe.

Go to "Tools | Options". In the default tab ("General") the third option is
"Use newsgroup message rating features". Uncheck that; it is more of a
problem than a solution. Turning it off will likely help, even if it does
not solve the problem.

Went there, and the box was not checked, so I assume that is
not causing the problem.

Thanks.
