10 points for giving no information.

What operating system are you using? What did you do before hand to make
nothing appear?

We can't help until we know the details.

|I have no icons, no startup button- nothing...please help!!!!!!!!

You will need to give us a lot more information before we can truly help you.
But have your tired to get into the "Safe Mode"?
After you first turn on the power button, keep tapping the F8 key until you get a startup menu.
Then using the arrow keys, select the "Safe Mode" option.
The computer should start in a limited (safe) mode with access to your system.
Then go to START - All Programs - Accessories - System Tools and finally to System Restore.
Choose a restore point from a date that the computer was working. Follow the on-screen directions.

Let us know exactly what happened.
Also provide your computer make and model and what you were doing before it left you blank.

ok, i will try that when I get home tonight....I have windows xp, dell
dimension 8400 and I recently installed a new hard drive but everything was
working great until last night. Now, something kept popping up saying that I
had a virus but I didn't recognize who it was from so i just kept clicking
stop scan...and I tried to dowload mcafee from my at&t. it never would load
properly.

screen with the words safe mode on the edges of the screen. that is all!!!! I
