stuck after repairing registry

hello,I run the repair option, checkdisk /r, it seemd to run ok. What
do I have to do next? I am getting first the Dell screen,then the
Windows xp screen,but then the screen goes dark and nothing happens.

chkdsk /r is NOT the registry repair...
it's used for checking your file system and repairing logical errors.

If you can get to safe mode (press F8 just before the operating system
loads...right after the bios messages)
you can try a system restore.


If that does not work, you can boot with your XP cd and perform a repair
install
