I have a Seagate STT20000A TBU installed on a Win2K PC that is not
recognized in Device Manager until I do a "Scan for Hardware Changes".
After that, the drive is recognized and the TBU works fine. Upon
reboot, the problem is back. This problem only manifested itself upon
formatting and reinstalling OS. Everything worked fine before that.
How can I insure the TBU will show up in Device Manager without having
to do a "Scan for Hardware Changes" everytime I want to use the TBU
(which is daily)?

TIA for your assistance.

Check that your computer's BIOS presents the correct type of device on that ATAPI channel. If the BIOS presents it, Windows should
see it when it boots. If not, you can uninstall it from device manager, reboot and try redetecting it. This will rebuild some of the
hardware enumeration and might fix the problem. If that doesn't work, try a separate ATAPI card for the tape.

Thanks for the reply. I have removed and let Windows redetect the
device several times, but the problem still persists. Have not checked
the BIOS, but will do so.

The tbu does show up in the bios. Adding another ATAPI card is not an
option. Removing and letting the OS re-install the TBU still does not
work. Any other ideas?

TIA
