Strong Password policies

I want to force my technology department users to conform
to Microsoft's "strong password" policy, but not force
this restriction on my general user population. (The
helpdesk calls would be astronomical.)

It seems that Microsoft, in its infinite wisdom, only
allows one password policy per domain. Has anyone found a
work-around for this issue?

I almost had the same situtation - requiring two

policies. I can't say this will work but what I was going
to try was:

Create a second domain level policy with the stricter
password password requirements. Place it below the default
domain policy on the priority list so that the default
domain policy has priority.

Put all the users that will have the stricter policy
applied to them (your technology department in this case)
in one group and under the default domain policy
properties, security tab, add the group and check the deny
box for apply group policy.

I can't say this will work as I never had to try it but
you could give it a test run with a dummy user ID.
