Strike throughs over deleted messages in inbox

How do I get rid of these? I have a user who recently set up Outlook and
when she deletes messages, they are still in her inbox with a
strikethrough. What is the setting to make that go away?
 
This is normal behavior for an IMAP account. Choose Edit | Purge Deleted
Messages to get rid of them once and for all.
 
I don't want the user to have to do the whole purge thing.
When she hits delete, I want it to go away, not sit there.

There was/is an option in OE for this but I can't find it
in outlook.

There is no such option in Outlook.
