I have a windows 2000 pro workstation. Every time I start it up, all seems
normal for the first 3 minutes or so. I can get on the internet, browse the
network etc... After a few minutes, or if I try and transfer anything bigger
than about 100k over the network or internet, my networking dies. The
computer loses its IP address and I cant do anything network related without
the thing locking up for a while. Then I try an IPCONFIG /RENEW and it tells
me it cant find the DHCP server although it shows I am connected to the
network. I can restart and everything is fine again for about 3 minutes. I
have tried 3 different network cards, different rooms, etc.. so I know its
something Windows related and not hardware. I watch my services and nothing
is stopping or anything like that. I really am stumped. Any ideas from
anyone would be great.

it could be spyware or/and winsock32 issues, this page may helpp, http://howtonetworking.com/others/spyware0.htm

Hi Robert, Good to meet you

I tried this again and before. If I re-install TCPIP, things work for a
short time. I try and transfer a big file (120mb) from the server to my
computer and it gets about 1/20th of the way done with 30 seconds left and it
stops transferring. Then, the network is gone until I restart or reinstall
TCPIP. Also happens if I try downloading something from the net. Windows
update kills it. Its almost like any time i try and transfer something over
a certain size, something on this machine cant handle it and it dies. I dont
get it. I have tried numerous NICs thinking that was it but it happens on
everyone. I am about to chalk it up to being a faulty motherboard or
something.

if it is not spyware or winsock32, it could be the hardware settings. but we need more information to help. try to re-set NIC speed and duplex.

What dns server is resolving ip addresses on your domain? Does the dhcp
server specify a default gateway? If your default gateway points to a
router, what does that router table look like? Are you using an ISP or a
private dns server? Which dns server, if any, is specified by the dhcp
lease? Finally, are you using a public or private address scope internally.
