1. computer locks up randomly when I do something.
It can be anything as long as it's something I do and not just som
random automated task (EG: clicking an app icon to open a program, o
saving something, or clicking a link in FF, or applying an effect in
gfx program, you name it)

2. after it's frozen for a few seconds I hear my external hard driv
being accessed and then it unfreezes.

And I don't have any programs installed on the external, it's just fo
storing files.

I know this is hardly enough info to diagnose unless you've had th
same problem. Just let me know of any more info that would be helpfu
or anything I can try.

thank you so so much in advance. I like you all,

perhaps it is the
indexing service and
or your anti virals
that are scanning.

Not the "strangest problem ever" so I'm taking a pass.

that's just fancy talk for "I have no idea how to fix it."

Thanks for the KB reference oh wise sorcerer of the forums, but th
post was obviously not a claim to actually have the strangest proble
ever. I thought that was apparent because such a claim in subjectiv
anyway.

I asked on another forum and they were actually more helpful then
could ever have anticipated. I've actually never met a bunch as nic
and helpful. Maybe if you were the nice sort this forum would b
flourishing as much as others.

I'll look around for some kind of KB reference about not being
condescending jerk. I'll even PM it to you if you want

I feel like you just said that. oh wait - you did. you just said the
exact same thing twice. I will never read that article. I'm not posting
in a newsgroup. it's a forum. and I've been posting in newsgroups and
forums for 10 years. If you have some sort of problem with the syntax
or method I choose to use, I don't need a special note telling me about
it.

thanks.

Top posting - can`t be bothered to snip :
You might be posting from a forum , but being on the net , all
postings are being seen on a newsgroup as in
microsoft.public.windowsxp.help_and_support
and I can read it using Agent newsreader/reader.
