Hi

A friend of mine has asked me to fix his XP Pro machine for various reasons,
one being infected with the blaster virus. The strange thing is that when I
go online to update winXP I keep getting a page come up saying 'Thank you
for your interest in Windows update' and 'You must be running
a Microsoft Windows operating system in order to use Windows update'. Now I
may not be the most experienced PC mechanic but I do know that the PC is
using winXP..

Can anybody help......

TIA

Hi,

Not unusual. Generally happens when more than one firewall is installed.
It's also a known issue with installations of Norton Internet Security.
Disable all except the native firewall to proceed. For NIS, you need to
delete a registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet
Settings\User Agent\Post Platform

I suggest you export a copy, then delete the one in the registry. You can
put it back aftwards.
