"Strange" things started happening yesterday with my XP
Home Edition. I play MMORPG (online games) regularly but
yesterday the game kept crashing on me regularly;
immediately when starting, in 30 seconds, in 2 minutes
etc. No viruses were found BUT a Trojan checker
found "Reaver" which is an mIRC trojan. That got cleaned
up BUT the game still crashed. Did another virus check
but now the virus checker stops part way thru it's
routine and says "Sorry...can't go on" or something to
that effect. Now figuring the virus checker got
corrupted I tried repairing BUT it won't let me saying
there's a problem. I tried uninstalling to reinstall BUT
XP says there's a problem with the installer package
(.msi) and can't continue. NOW I've lost at least one
Service, "Application Management" saying it can't start
because the module cannot be found. I have NO idea if
this is related to anything. There are MANY
errors/warnings in the Event services; can't start this,
can't start that, cannot find etc etc. When the Error
window says click here for XP Help even XP Help says
it's "Undefined" and won't even let me go further or
report the error.
Short of reloading XP, does anyone know how to go about
resolving this?
