Strange VPN TCP/IP problem

Hi all

I have a small business with one network, and a router to the internet. We
have a server on the internet which we use Symantec VPN to access.

Every so often, my machine cannot access this other machine. The VPN says
"connected", the internet connection works, but something somewhere isn't
knowing to send my traffic down the VPN.

If I change my IP addess, and re-establish the VPN, it works fine !!!! I do
this by creating a DHCP reservation on the DHCP server.

So I have a workaround, but it's not very convenient.

Anyone got any ideas about what is happening ?

Thanks in advance

What type of Symantec VPN device is the unit in question? I use Symantec
200R's and 200's and occasionally VPN clients do have connectivity issues.
Upgrading the firmware to the latest version has helped in the past. Over a
3-month period, I may have only one instance where the VPN is connected, but
the traffic isn't passed across the VPN. It happens somewhat more frequently
with Client-to-Gateway VPN's as opposed to Gateway-to-Gateway VPN's. You may
also want to make sure that if you're using the Symantec VPN Client
(software) that it is the latest version compatible with your particular
hardware.

If acquiring new IP address seems to resolve it, check the VPN policy
settings regarding tunnel 'lifetime' or data throughput limits (data
volume). Sounds like the lifetime duration may be timing out and it is not
automatically being renewed for some reason.

Cheers!
