Strange virus

hey
ive got this strange virus that hasnt done anything except change by background (see attached)

i've been googleing trying to find a solution but all the help sites are in a different language

anyway its changed by backround to some flashing thing that says im infected and need to do follow some link. the thing is.. i cant change it! the Display Properties>Desktop is greyed out (see attached)


im using XP home edition with SP2

Run those and see what happens. Also clear system restore by turning it off and in control panel and on again, as viurs hide them selfs in system restore so if you restore your computer back to an ealier time you could bring back the viurs again.

run what Wiz has posted and see what happens..I'd also suggest getting rid of the skin you are using..I'm presuming it bricopack..???Sorry crap spelling I know...I've installed things like this before and been riddled with viruses...They may make your computer look pretty and nice, but they do it no favours..Half the updates that you'll do wont work while you have this installled..

thanks super anti spyway is cleaning now .. they really need some1 to come up with a better name!
system restore is off i backup everything manually so tht prolly wont be an issue.

@max i was testing a few games out nd one of the keygens i downloaded for 1 was corupted
the theme pack ive had for the last.. 3-4 years never had ny problems with except.. except for paying haha

meh want my linux machine back!

thanks for all ur help ill post the results.. but unless those programs fix registry values i doubt they will have much effect

Hi,

CCleaner does remove registry values, also does this Please note that this can cause problems so whatever you do make sure you do a back up first of what you are going to change just in case of any problems)

hmm well i tried the virus scanners but so far all thats done is get rid of my background .. which is great cuz now it doesn't have tht annoying flashing message. However, im stuck with the default ugly blue windows color which is almost as bad as the flashing spyware bg

any ideas what registry key enables and disables the display properties> Desktop ??

I am glad to here that things have progressed. What are you actually trying to do to disaply properties? do you want to change the colour of the windows task bar?

if u look at the pic i uploaded ull notice that the buttons to control the background are greyed out and can not be used. id like to fix this so that i can change my background.

im guessing that the virus probably edited a registry key.. but i dont for sure

Ok sorry must have missread your post. Can you remeber the name of the Viurs that Anti Vir found when you did a scan or anything realting to it so we find out what registry keys realte to the viurs. In the mean time you can download this tool do a complete scan and remove any the things that are green not orange. The green ones are safe to remove and the orange ones are not fuly safe. (Remeber when using this program to create a back up first before you edit the registry click on the backup icon in Wise Registry Cleaner) once you have done that you can fix the things it finds that are green. If it finds anything thats orange and realtes to the viurs post it here and I'll take a look at it for you.
