Strange view on opening a presentation

Suddenly, every time I open any PowerPoint File, by double clicking it, I get
a different view. It's like a browser view, not the normal editing view. I
cannot edit in this view. The only way I can get to my normal view is to use
"Open As...." . Extremely annoying. Can you help ?

When you right click on a ppt icon what command is in bold text?
Please also confirm that they are ppt (normally sort of red) icons not pps
(blue usually)

Hi John,

Bold text = "Open", and yes they are .ppt files.
I have found one solution to this question.
I right clicked on a file and chose "properties". For some reason, this was
set to "Explorer" rather than PowerPoint. I changed this to "Open with
PowerPoint". This seemed to fix, not just the file I was looking at, but my
entire list of files !!
So the problem is gone - but I find it mysterious that such a change to a
single file should affect ALL my files. (Of which I have many.).

Thank you for your interest in this question.

If you look in the box where you changed it you'll see a (ticked) box "Always
use this program to open this kind of file ..." - that's why it affects all
files!

Hi John,
