Strange user security issues...

I have a directory on the server and gave a usergroup full
control over it.

When users in the group login, they can see the files in
the directory. That's as designed, obviously... What the
problem is is that only one person can use that file at a
time. The application is QuickBooks. The error is that the
file is nolonger a QuickBooks datafile or is damaged.

Now, here is the strange part: If the Administrator logs
in and then accesses the file through QuickBooks, then
other users can access the file at the same time. It
appears that the security/privledges are reset overnight
because the next day, users are left with only one person
being able to access the file.

I read about resetting the GPO object, but it looks messy
and I don't want to get involved in something that could
kill this server. It's a production server.

What is going on? Is there some setting in the active
directory that would control this? How do I fix it? We
have other apps on the server that access files
concurrently with no problems...

HELP!!! This is getting old...

Thank you for any assistance.

Server is Windows 2000 server w/sp4
Clients are all Windows 2000 Pro w/sp4.

Let me know if you need any other info.

Thanks...

I believe QB needs to be opened on the QB admins machine,
and then set to multi-user mode, for other users to access
the QB file.

I think that may an issue particular to QuickBooks. You may want to try and
contact them, see if they have an FAQ on their website or see if they have a
newsgroup or other forum. I can't think of anything in W2K operating system
that would cause that. --- Steve

Their imported 'support' is particularly interesting... I
had one guy just hang up on me...

The were insisting that it was a Windows issue... The buck
does not stop I guess...
