I've just upgraded my computer..........Motherboard, cpu ..memory
......hardrives..etc. All of which is working fine.

Which of course a necessatated new copy of win xp.

I'm using on board sound with a gigabyte motherboard pentium 4 3.06 ghz and
AC 97 sound.

What is bothering me is the three (3) rather loud drumbeats I get shortly
after XP has booted.

Presumably there's a conflict somewhere, but I've checked all the usual
suspects in the Control Panal and can find nothing wrong or any reason for
the strange noises??

Anyone got any ideas??

Many thanks one and all.

All I can think of is to look in the manual for the motherboard and find
out if during it's boot up it will issue "drumbeats" as an indication of
some startup problem. Also check the sound associations (Control Panel,
Sound and Audio Devices) to see what even is associated with a
"drumbeat" in case XP is launching this. Finally, review the event log.
