Strange Remote Desktop behavior

I just bought XP Pro, partially for the Remote Desktop
capability. Configured it with one user ("Don"), with
administrator privileges. I have a LAN and a laptop
running Windows 2000, on which I installed the remote
desktop software. If I try to connect to the machine
running XP Pro as "Don", I get an error: "The system could
not log you on". If I try to log on as "Administrator",
that works. Why can't I log on as "Don"? Does it matter
if I'm logged on to the laptop as "Administrator"?

You will need to add this account "Don" to "Remote Desktop Users" group.

Okay, that helps. I did that, still no joy, though the
denial message was different ("Unable to connect due to
an account restriction"). Then I added a password to
my "Don" account; that did the trick. But now I need to
enter a password to access my account; as it's a home PC,
this seems unnecessary. Is there any way to avoid this?

No. You have to have a password in order for an account
to be able to be logged in to remotely. If the remote
desktop was not set up that way then anyone that knew
your username could connect to your computer and have
full access. So you have two choices, use remote desktop
and have a password, or take out your password and don't.
