From about 10pm to about 10am the next morning my network goes bizerk. It
looks like there is either a squalking network card or something else going
on. All my workstations go into a renegotiation with the SMC Baricade
DSL/Cable router. They connect for a couple of seconds then disconnect for a
couple of seconds, back and forth all night long. Then at 10am they connect
and all is well until 10pm.

I have tried disconnecting the workstations and reconnecting them one at a
time, but am unable to get any one at a time to connect.

I have disconnected all the work station and replaced the network controller
on one workstation plug it in, no go.

I have power cycled the router. power cycled everything.

I am suspecting a bad cable or connector. But I was wondering if anyone had
heard of a virus that might cause this.

How many machines are we talking about? Is there a hub
involved? And lastly does something happen at 10 each
morning and evening? Does the healting/cooling in the
building start and stop then? Does a cleaning person come
in and unplug something?

I have 4 wokstations. 2 on a hub, 1 connected directly to the router and one
wireless. I am suspecting the hub or wiring to the hub. I have disconnected
it and got the wireless working but not the other.

Only thing I can think of is the temperature difference from late night to
morning. It is in California temperature range from 40 at night to 70 during
the day. The cabling to the hub is through an attic exposed to outside
temperatures.

If the two machines on the wired hub are having problems
and the wiring runs outside. I would check the wiring and
replace any connections that look suspect. If the
connection is bad the wire could be expanding and
contracting in the cold/heat causing a short, but usually
it needs a bigger temp range than you are describing. I
would check the hub and either bypass it with one of the
machines if you can. Hope this help.
