Strange problem with 2 networked computers

I have two computers, both running XP Home, on a cable network, using a
router. They can both access the internet, but they now cannot see each
other. The router appears to be fine, the cable is OK, obviously the
connection is good if they can each access the internet....

For the life of me, I can't understand why they can't see each other. They
could do, and now they can't!!

Can anyone shed possible light on this? It's frustrating as heck because we
run our business using these machines and I can no longer back up data from
one of the machines!

Thanks,

Nig

Run the Network Setup Wizard on each computer. If the Wizard detects
the router's shared Internet connection, tell the Wizard to use that
connection. Otherwise, tell the Wizard that the computer connects to
the Internet through a residential gateway. Tell the Wizard to enable
File and Printer Sharing.

Configure any firewall program (Norton, McAfee, ZoneAlarm, PC-cillin,
CA, etc) to allow file and printer sharing on the local area network.
Note that some recent antivirus programs contain firewall components
that have to be configured.

On each computer, open a command prompt window (Start > run > cmd) and
ping the other computer by computer name and IP address. For example:

ping pc1
ping 192.168.0.100

Each ping should get four replies.
