Strange noise

Every time I open internet, and thereafter at every new window/site, there
is a strange noise occurrence. Pardon me, but it sounds like a fart and
this is extremely annoying.
Can anybody help to get rid of this ?

Hi -- I believe this is a sound that has been setup for this function. To
get rid of it go to "Start", "Settings", "Control Panel". Click on the icon
for "Sounds and Audio Devices". A window will popup with five tabs at the
top. Click on Sounds. You will see a list of sounds that occur when certain
things happen. Just remove any you don't want.

There is a spyware detector program that does that to announce a virus --
can't think of which one right now, but check your malware applications to
see if that is what occurred. You might have to clean out something
dangerous.

Thank you all very much for your assistance. After my return from absence,
the noise has mysteriously disappeared - just as it had come ! I will
though peciously keep all your advice.
