strange mouse driver issue?

Got something bizarre going on that I've never seen
before... I use a cordless Microsoft wheel mouse with XP
and the most recent Intellipoint driver (4.12) and have
never had trouble with it. My wheel button, which is set
to double-click, suddenly doesn't work... but whatever
file has been corrupted seems to affect other applications
in XP to the point where I have to shut down.

I haven't installed any new software in the past several
days, so I'm not sure what's causing the conflict. I
uninstalled and reinstalled the Intellipoint software, but
that didn't seem to do the trick - all mouse functions
will work fine when I first boot up, but then I invariably
lose them. I think some system file that is not a part of
the driver package must be corrupt.

Any ideas about what this is and how I might resolve the
problem?

Thanks-
Curt
