Thanks for the suggestion. In fact, I found an article in the MS
Knowledgebase (#329912) that had a 2 part fix. The first part was exactly
what you suggested. The second part was in case the fix wasn't complete.
In fact, after doing as you suggested, the "Locate Link Browser" dialog
doesn't come up but TWO IE windows open - one blank and one with the correct
page. The instruction says:
Test to determine if the issue is resolved. If the issue is resolved, do not
complete the remaining steps. If the issue is not resolved, you may
experience a new symptom in which two windows open. When this occurs, one
window displays the correct link and one is empty. If you experience this
new symptom, go to the next step.
Double-click My Computer.
On the Tools menu, click Folder Options.
Click the File Types tab.
Under Extension, locate the "N/A" entry, and then locate the "URL:HyperText
Transfer Protocol" entry under File Types.
Click Advanced.
Under Actions, click Open.
Click Set Default, and then click OK two times.
When I open My Computer, there is no Tools menu. Folder Options is under
the View menu. So under Folder Options, I click the File Types tab. What
does "Under Extension" mean? I see no section marked Extension and no N/A
entry. I do see a "URL:HyperText Transfer Protocol" entry (in fact, there
are two!). When I open one, there is no advanced button, but under
"Actions" there is "open". I double click it and open a detailed window, or
just highlight it and click "Set Default".
I have done this and the problem still persists (the double window issue).
Have you any idea what's going on? Have I made any sense above?
Thanks again.
Stephen
Clearly, the instructions refer to a different version of Windows - I'm
using 98 SE.
The second part of the instruction in the Knowledgebase doesn't seem to work
for me

When you get that message, browse to the .exe for your preferred browser and
click okay. That should fix it.

| Recently, when clicking a link inside an Outlook 2K message a dialog
| box opens - "Locate Link Browser". Then IE6 opens a blank window.
|
| If I cancel out of the dialog box and re-click the link, it opens in
| the previously blank window.
|
| I tried repairing (via the install disk) and I thought the problem was
| fixed. But it quickly returned (if it was ever gone).
|
| Any ideas about what it is? What to do?
|
| Thanks.
