Recently I powered down during an extremely slow shutdown and my PC with Core 2 Duo 1.86 and 2 GB and WD SATA 160 GB just died on reboot the next day with a BSOD. Nothing has worked since. Safe Mode, Last Known Good Configuration and Regular Mode all resulted in 0x0000007B, apparently pointing to my drive. Dell diagnostics report no problems on the drive.
I cannot even boot to an bootable Win XP Pro CD. Even tried the SlipStreaming XP Pro with SP2. Everything goes to BSOD. The guy who sold me the PC is AWOL and I just don't want to throw away my drive which has a lot of time invested into it.
Fdisk from MS-DOS 6.22 doesn't see any hard drives in the system. And I can't even get to a command prompt from any of the Windows bootable CDs. BTW, this thing doesn't have a floppy drive.
Any ideas?
