strange issue

since replacing the motherboard on my computer, my IE6 will not load standard
web pages.
it will load secure (https) sites fine, and it also will load the
windowsupdate site
i have tried re-registering most of the related dll files that i could find
for most IE security fixes hoping that maybe one of them would cure it
i have XP SP2 installed so there is nor repair option for IE
most people i have discussed this with say i should just format and
reinstall windows, but that would be a lot of work to reinstall all my
programs and documents, i'm hoping there is a simple fix to get this resolved

i have also run netsh int ip reset reset.txt thinking it might have been a
tcp/ip issue
i can surf fine with firefox browser but i have hotmail accounts that i
prefer to use OE to view, and that isnt working either
i believe the issues to be related

Hi,
These first two steps probably won't help, but they're too quick and easy to
not try ;-)
1. Try this command from Start> Run
iexplore.exe /rereg
[enter] This reregisters all DLLs used by IE.
2. From Start> Run:
netsh Winsock reset
[enter]

Are you sure that the machine is malware free? Download and run CWShredder,
Ad-aware, Spybot.

i have also run hyjackthis and found no malware
i will try some of the other links you posted and see if they help, but if
you have more ideas, please post

I think you need a better description/understanding of your symptoms.
For example, I have had similar problems when there is a switch between
security zones involved. Do you have any sites listed in Trusted sites
which might be interfering with the ones that you are trying to get to?
E.g. is there a passport login involved first? If so, it may help to
avoid the Trusted sites zone temporarily by removing such interfering
entries from it.

One thing which can help diagnose your problem and improve your
description/understanding of it is to use security prompting as a kind of
rudimentary trace. Set Fullscreen mode on and make sure that
Status bar is enabled in that mode in order to see as much as possible
of the URLs involved. Doubleclick on the security zone icon in order
to get into the Options, Security tab and use the Custom Level... button
to set all its options to Prompt instead of Enable (where possible
and where desirable.)

If you need more help give a specific URL which you are having
trouble with and your observations using the above diagnostic
technique.

BTW please try to provide better details in your Subject as well
as in your problem description. Your "strange issue"
may be confused with someone else's completely unrelated
problem by being grouped under the same undescriptive
generic Subject by some newsreaders, such as Outlook Express
and Google Groups.

it wont load anything but secure sites
i don't have the exact addresses with me right now to post
it will also load www.windowsupdate.com
thats IT
its not an ISP issue since i can surf with firefox just fine
i have already done all the things preveously posted and none have fixed it
didn't have this problem before replacing the motherboard, but it has to be
something in IE because firefox works
there are only 2 trusted sites, one is microsoft and i don't remember the
other

i may end up doing a full system restore and see if that fixes it
but i was hoping it wouldn't come to that
i don't know how much "more detailed" you expect it to be
if you have some specific sites you want me to try, please post them
i have tried ebay, msn, www.gwi.net(my ISP)
i can receive pop3 email fine but not hotmail via OE
and since OE uses http to get hotmail, i believe the issues to be related
