Strange Issue which norton does not pick up

Win2000pro sp4

Can anyone help with this issues I am having?

Whenever I start or use my laptop the mouse cursor seems to have a mind of
it's own, moving across the screen and not allowing me to control the mouse.

I have zone alarm as my firewall and have the latest updates for Norton
Antivirus.

When I run my virus check nothing is picked up?

Any ideas?

Not a question about Microsoft Access, but ... my first guess would be a
hardware problem. If this is a true mouse, does changing to a different
mouse help? If it's a touchpad, maybe something is stuck or broken. Do
your own mouse-movement actions have any effect at all?
