I have a home network of 2 computers. My desktop is connected to the
internet via a cable to a Siemens Gigaset SE567 router. My laptop is
connected wirelessly to the router. Both machine are running Windows XP Home
SP3. Both machines can access the internet fine.
I have run the Network Setup Wizard on both machines. They are both in the
same workgroup, and guest accounts with no passwords are active on both.
My printer is USB-connected to my desktop. When I start up my laptop, it
sometimes successfully opens the printer and can use it. Other times, it is
unable to open the printer.
On both machines, when I go into My Network Places and view my workgroup,
sometimes I can see the other machine, sometimes I see only the local
machine, and sometimes I see no machine. When I can see both machines,
sometimes I can explore the other machine and sometimes I get an access is
denied response.
I'm not an expert, but I have read everything I can find, checked all
suggested settings, and rerun Network Setup Wizard many times, but the
problem persists. Has anyone seen anything like this or have any ideas on
why it works sometimes and not others?
