I'm working with a computer that belonged to someone else and Internet
Explorer is displaying pages strangely. IE is not using the fonts
or layouts as ordinarily displayed for the web sites. I can provide screen
shot examples
by e-mail but can't upload them to the news group because they make the
message too large.
When I go to the configured MSN home page (http://sympatico.msn.ca/), I get
the message: "Why does MSN look like this? Your browser cannot find our
style and presentation information. You are welcome to use the page as is,
or upgrade your browser to its latest version. If you are using Microsoft
Internet Explorer, go to the Microsoft Internet Explorer website to install
the latest version. If you are using another browser, see its website for
more information."
The PC has Windows '98 and IE 6.0.2800.1106CO with SP1. The problem has been
in place through several versions of IE. The previous user "did something"
but doesn't remember what.
The problem does not occur with Netscape Navigator. It does, however, appear
to affect some other applications that use HTML - e.g. Yahoo Messenger and
Telus E-Care, an internet connection troubleshooting utility that displays
reports in dialogue windows clearly formatted with HTML.
I have tried uninstalling and re-installing IE to no avail. Any
suggestions?? Some style sheet or accessibility or font setting that I'm
missing somewhere? I've been all through the Internet Options dialogs and
haven't found anything that helps.
