This AM when I started my computer at about the end of the boot my
fire wall informed me that regedit.exe was trying to access the
internet. I said no and the boot continued OK.
My question why would regedit want or need to access the internet?
Any one have a clue as to what is happening?

You may have some spyware that was installed without your knowledge.

Hi,

Have you done a start/search/files on regedit yet?
Are there multiple copies of it?
What does a scan with an updated AV program say about it?

To answer your question, or to confirm your suspicions, no, regedit should
not be trying to access the internet.

I just ran a full antivirus scan with Norton and a full adaware scan
and they both come up empty.
I also ran a search for regedit and it comes up with the same as my
other computer so I doubt that is a factor.
So the mystery deepens
Thanks for the reply

Hi,

Right-click the regedit.exe file under C:\Windows (anywhere else is an
indication of a problem). Select properties - what is the size listed? It
should be 134,144 bytes. Also, does the modification date read as anything
recent?

All have the same property values with an install date back to 2001
They are all 134,144 bytes in size.
I have gone into the firewall and deleted the block for regedit so I
will see if it comes up again on next boot or if this was just a
fluke.
