Strange DOS application in task switcher???

The past 2-3 days I have noticed a DOS icon visible when I invoke ALT-TAB to
switch tasks. I cannot switch to this icon. There are no unfamiliar
applications or services running in the task manager. I have current NAV
antivirus definitions and have run a program to detect trojans and spyware.
But still it is there...

Can anyone suggest where else to look for this source of this icon? Is there
somewhere else an application can be running without being visible in task
manager?

Thanks Rick, but no joy.

I have checked all of these possibilities, and there is nothing in any of
them that I don't recognise as having already been there before this problem
arose. I regularly check for stray startup programs and services and I try
to know the purpose of everything that is authorised to run on the machine.
Any other thoughts?

Try scanning your system with Ad-Ware Lava Soft or Spybot (I have forgotten
their URL, but a Internet Search will find it for you) software on your system
and see in someone is tracking you with an ad ware program.
