Strange Days (O97M.teocotl)

Newbie here, so please be patient.
We got hit with Strange Days yesterday and it erased some Excel files.
We had NAV up to date, but it got us anyway.
I downloaded some Undelete software, but was unable to find the affected
files.
Anybody know how I can retrieve the deleted files or if its even
technically possible?

If the files were deleted without shredding or using a wipe technique then
it may be possible to recover them with unerase or file recovery tools.
