Strange Cross in left margin>...???

hi all..

I messed up and somehow I now have a cross in the left hand margin of
a word document and cant get rid of it.... Could some one tell me
what it is so I can get a starting place to look so I can get rid of
it... Its shaped like the American red cross.....
