I've been refilling for years with few, if any, problems. So, I don't believe this is a refilling
problem per se.
I find that I have magenta (or, at least, reddish) streaks, starting at the left side of, say, an
8x10 image. Sometimes, these streaks extend completely across the print; often they only show for a
half inch or so but are fairly uniform all along the left side of the image. Streaks completely
across the image are only 2 or 3 pixels (dots) in height and are often hard to see.
These red streaks are most noticable when the background color of the image is dark. Example: a
portrait shot against a dark blue background. To me, that means a failure of black or cyan to print,
thereby allowing the magenta to be visible.
Repeated deep cleaning cycles seem to help. Yesterday, I finally removed the print head and used a
50 cc, syringe to force Windex gently through the head from the filter side of the cartridge holes.
(Cartridges removed to be sure.) After the Windex seemed to be clear, I flushed each path with
distilled water until no residual ink colored the water. I followed that with a gentle flush with
compressed air through each path.
Then, I allowed the head assembly to dry under my desk lamp (really not hot...just a li'l warm.)
Reinstalled everything, gave the system a deep cleaning cycle and printed. Behold! all is well.
This morning, I tried the printer again and the old problem is back...streaking. A-a-agh!
Has anyone had a similar problem and solved it?
Has anyone an idea as to what causes the problem?
How about some kind of roller problem? Is that a possibility? (If so, I can't imagine the failure
mechanism, but. . .)
Don't bother me with the refilling blather. I've got my mind made up to continue refilling so you
can't convince me with fairy tales.
