Strange BUG: XP home, access DB compact, and "access denied"

This is probably an issue for an Access Guru.

Scenario:

Access 2000 on both machines
Laptop running XP Home
Desktop running XP Pro

I am running an Access application on the desktop. I copy to the laptop
(copy c:\foo.mdb \\laptop\share\foo.mdb) to take the app on the road, and
copy it back to the desktop when I get back.

The problem is I have "compact on close" or I manually compact the app on
the laptop, when I try to move it back to the desktop, the laptop says
"access denied". The laptop can be shut down and powered back up and still
the problem remains. I can go to the laptop and copy the file to another
location, and the new copy is available over the network, at least until I
compact it.

The interesting thing, is that with XP Pro on the laptop all is fine.

I can't find it, but there must be an MS issue with XP Home, compacting a DB
and copying it over the network. It appears that the redirector on the
laptop thinks the file is still open. but only under XP Home.

Thanks for any info anyone has.

Andrew

I'm not sure this will help. XP Home is not really designed for networks. It
can do ICS and some non-domain home networking. But domain permissions are
impossible since XP Home cannot join a domain. It can, however, connect to
the domain with proper authentication. There may be policies set on the
network that limit how files can be used and/or copied.
