Strange Behaviour

Dear all,

One of the Win2000 Professional PC had some strange behaviour.

At first, we suspect that computer is virus inflected. However, we had used
NAV & AVG to scan the computer and cannot find any virus.

That PC can ping the either computer name or IP in local LAN.
It can also ping the gateway and DNS server.
It can also ping the IP in internet

However, it cannot resolve the internet name, such as web site.

Further more, we found that it can use the map drives and connect to SQL2000
in local LAN, but fail to connect to other application using other port,
such as pcanywhere.

I have even changed the network card and still failed...

Does anyone encounter similar situation?

Most likely a DNS issue. This tool may help with the other issue.

Actually, it can resolve the computer name on Local Name, i think that may
not relayed to DNS problem, as we found that the situation is similar to
port blocking in a local PC only.
