strange behaviour from search engine

Hi all

Thanks in advance if anyone has any ideas...

A copy of XP on a laptop. When XP boots up, after startup
the search window pops up and keeps popping up in
multiple windows, won't go away, and is hard to close
down. I've tried XP Rescue from the CD etc but it is
still there. There doesn't seem to be anything in any of
the start up folders and I don't know the name of the
execuable to search the registry for any references etc
