Hello everybody!
I just installed Windows Vista with the same setup I had in my previous
Windows XP: Cubase SX3 and some virtual synths. I have a Creative Sound
Blaster Extigy with MIDI In and Out Ports; I also have a MIDI keyboard for
playing the virtual synths, input notes into Cubase and play sounds of its
own; I have it connected to Extigy's line in. This setup has always worked
fine in Windows XP.
My problem with Windows Vista is awkward: I installed the virtual synths
with both the Stand alone and VST versions and when I opened one of them to
play I had no response. I then tried another and had no response either. I
opened Cubase, tried to record some MIDI and nothing. Then I opened a MIDI
file, routed the output for the external keyboard and it played. So I
thought: I have no MIDI In but have MIDI Out...
And then I noticed the weirdest thing: I have MIDI In! Cubase's MIDI IN
Activity monitor signals everything I do in the keyboard! And then I tried to
record some MIDI again: no luck. I had nothing. I insisted again and this
time I had something; though no sound came out I did record something. I
opened the event list and saw that it was AfterTouch messages. Then I started
recording again. I recorded everything: from Pitch Bend to Modulation;
AfterTouch and Program Changes; All MIDI messages were recorded except, well,
the notes.
I then opened a virtual synth and tried again; it received everything:
Program Changes, Pitch Bend, Modulation, Sustain, again, everything but the
notes.
I then thought that it could be some keyboard program and restarted the PC
with the old Windows XP disk. Tried everything and everything was fine. Then
I went back to Vista: the same problem again.
And then I opened Cubase again to watch the MIDI In Activity monitor and
yes, it monitors the Key Down and Key Up events but Cubase can't record any
notes.
The only thing in my computer that seems to acknowledge the Key Up and Down
events is the Cubase MIDI In Activity monitor, nothing else does it.
So please, can anyone tell me what might be wrong? Please?
Thanks a lot
