Strange behavior is killing me. (hanging & drag & drop problems)

First, let me just say that I taught myself how to use Excel, so bear with me
on terms and descriptions of things. I have a workbook that I wrote
independently on three different computers, one having XL 2003, the other two
having XL 2000. To update these workbooks for the new year, I downloaded
each onto a USB memory device and then onto my home computer, which runs XL
2000.

Halfway into updating, the workbook starts to act funky. It takes forever
to save and when I make changes to groups of worksheets, it hangs. Sometimes
it will say that the program is not responding, but if I let it sit for a
while (15 -30 minutes), it will recover.

The thing that really got me was when I tried to drag fill a column with a
formula, it simply copied the text of that cell the whole way down instead of
filling the formula. Please, please, please tell me what is wrong and how to
fix it because my next call is to an exorcist. Thanks in advance for your
help.

Canyon dude, I don't know if you fixed the problem yet but here are a few
tips. You can ease up the computer time by making some excel changes. go to
tools options and tell it to calculate with "f9" it will stop automatic
calculations until you are ready to take a break, then press f9 and go get
some coffee. Also, you have your copy function as copy text not formula, you
can hit control C for copy and when you get to the location cell go to Edit,
Paste special and tell it to copy over the formula, also try to hold down
ctrl - this sometimes toggles how it is copying. You might also want to
check in Tools, Options to see if you have a setting that is causing that.
And finally, It sounds not so much like an excel issue but rather a
processer issue. Try going to the "biggest, baddest" computer you can find
and see if it works well there, if not go back to your original file and make
sure it is not pulling information from other files or excel itself i.e. a
saved custom list. These little pulls from the program can slow down a file
when it is accessed remotely, because your new program doesn't know where to
get the info.

Hope this helps.
