Strange AD Problem

Our organizatoin uses property tags for computer names in
the domain and AD. On several ocassions I have swapped
hard disks in laptops or workstations to get users up and
running faster when they experience a hard disk crash. I
remove both computers from AD and then correct the
computer name to reflect the property tag number. I readd
the workstation to the domain and it says that it has
been added but the workstation is nowhere to be found in
AD. I have to go to the workstation, remove it from the
domain, reboot & readd it. Sometimes it will be there
sometimes not. I have to remove and readd it until it
finally shows up in AD. Any idea what is causing this and
if the worstation is in the domain but cannot be found in
AD where is it?

Perhaps you have many objects in you AD, and this task maybe slow.
If you success join this computer in domain, it´s just a question of time.
If you have anothers DC in you domain, trying to use "ipconfig /registerdns"

Depending on the scenario you are seeing it is possible that the join
operation is placing the account on one DC, and the change had not (for
whichever reason) replicated to the machine you were at or had the Adminpack
tools focused on.

So the questions there would be: how many DCs do you have? How many sites
do you have? How long did you wait?
