Storyboard doesn't work

I have wmm v 2.1.4026.0

I recorded some video clips using a Logitech webcam which saves files into
wmv format. When I try to import these clips into wmm, nothing appears until
I close wmm and reopen it, at which time the clips do appear in collections.

Even then, however, I cannot move any of the clips into the wmm storyboard.

I presume I'm doing something wrong in the process somewhere. Pls advise.

Thanks.

Thanks for your efforts, John, but I'm giving up on trying to use MovieMaker. It looks like a fine video editor but I just can't make it work. I've spent hours and hours on this issue, including deleting and reinstalling SP2, and that in itself was lengthy and time-consuming. Plus hours and hours of 'research' during which time I saw many complaints and problems with MovieMaker, so I'll just wait till I upgrade my computer system and maybe an updated version of MM will be out by then.

Best wishes to you, C

Nice try, Graham. You're assuming that I'm not a neophyte with video
production.

Only kidding, I very much appreciate your help. However, how does one
determine the settings of the original file? And which 'settings' we talkin'?

Stay with me, Graham. I'm not totally stupid (I hope). Give me some more
advice. I don't know why every destination seems to involved such a long,
time-consuming, convoluted and byzantine process!!!

Thanks again and best wishes, CJ

Setting as in the video size, so pal would be 720x576, but it may be 640x480
or if downloaded from the web 240x180 etc.
Then bitrate, chose the same bitrate for the output file. Or as close as you
can. You can adjust the settings more from the compression tab of encoder.

Doing this means that you won't have to wait so long for the file to be
encoded or lost so much quality.

You can find the settings of the original file by moving the cursor over it
in windows explorer.

I just discovered that MovieMaker does not show up in "Set Program Access and
Defaults, Add or Remove Programs". Also it is not in "documents and
settings" under 'application data', microsoft for all users or any user. ???

I is, however, listed in program files on my C: drive.

Could this be a problem?

I don't know why I'm still trying to make this thing (mm) work?

And so far as using those codec files, the settings are too innumerable for
me to figure them out.
