Storing update files offline

I reformat frequently, and always dread the updating
process through the web page.

Is there a relatively quick way to download all relevant
updates so can burn them to a CD for future use? Most of
the small ones, like the critical updates, aren't a big
deal. My main concern is the large files, such as sp1 and
media player 9, that require downloading a setup file and
then that determines what other files are downloaded.

I have found the sp1 for network install, which is nice...
Are there similar files available for the other complex
updates?

Thanks in advance!

Hey there,

Do a search on Microsoft's website for "Slipstreaming SP1"
or "Integrated Installation" (without the quotes). You
should be able to find instructions on how to do this very
neat trick that allows you to integrate all the new updates
in SP1 with the core files from your Win XP CD so that the
next time you have to install XP, it will automatically
have SP1 installed with it.

There are ways of getting this to work with DirectX &
Windows Media Player but the process is a lot more
complicated and so I would recommend installing those
additional apps separately afterwords.

Hope this helps.
