Hi,

I need to store my Epson C84 for 2 months.
I think to remove the cartridges, but is there an other thing to do ?

Thanks.

Hi there
Provided you store it in a dry place (and away from rodents and insects who
quite like to get into printers) the only thing that might happen (but not
always) is the printheads could dry out. For that reason I would be inclined to
leave the ink cartridges in place, that should help to keep the printheads
moist.
Arthur Entlicha <[email protected]> is the most knowledgeable person I
know in this newsgroup with respect to Epson inkjet printers and is always
willing to help, he might have better advice. When you retrieve the printer and
if you do have print quality problems then ask Art for a copy of his manual
which will almost certainly give you a solution.

Sorry Art, I really can spell your name, just a typo. Art's correctly spelled
name is Arthur Entlich (without the extra "a").

I actually do NOT suggest you remove the cartridges, unless you will get
some cleaning /purging cartridges and flush the heads fully before you
store it.

The cartridges will actually protect the head from drying out to some
extent.

Here's what I suggest you do:

1: Turn on printer and set it to cartridge exchange position.

Pull the AC cord (plug) from the wall without turning the printer off.

2: Assuming your are using Eposn OEM inks, with an eyedropper, fill the
cleaning station with some ammoniated window cleaner, and then place the
heads gently over the parking/cleaning station. If you are using 3rd
party inks, you may wish to use water, since I do not know the exact pH
those inks will have.

3: after about half an hour, with the front on/off switch now off, plug
the printer back in.

If you removed the printer from the computer connection, reconnect
printer to computer (with computer and printer off) and then turn teh
printer on. Allow the printer to do a cleaning cycle, which it will
probably do automatically on start up. If not, set it to do one only.

4: Just before you wish to put the printer away in storage, set the
printer off to do some printing, like a black line all the way on the
opposite side of the page from the cleaning station, and carefully place
a squirt or two of water in the cleaning station sponges. Make sure to
keep your hands away when the heads come back to the cleaning station,
you don't want to hit the head or injure your fingers.

5: Shut the printer down normally once it finishes it's last printing
job. Disconnect from computer (with computer off) and then unplug the
printer.

6. Fold up the trays and close covers, so the printer is closed up as
much as possible. Place the printer into a plastic bag large enough to
accommodate it comfortably, being careful to leave the printer upright
in the appropriate position at all times (don't turn it sideways, upside
down, etc). Before sealing the plastic bag the printer is in (using a
twist tie or whatever) give the head a gentle nudge to the right to make
sure it is well parked, then place a small disk with a mildly dampened
sponge in it next to the printer, again keeping it upright so no water
will spill or enter the printer. This will help keep the humidity up in
the bag without making anything wet.

7: upon return, remove it from bag, again keeping it upright, and
connect to computer and plug it in, turn on the computer then printer,
and do a test print or nozzle test. If it appears to be missing line,
contact me and I will give you some suggestions to getting it going
again, but I doubt you will need to do so.

Many many thanks for all your help.....

I'll do all that, on the morning before my departure.
