my drive of choice is c and it's file system is ntfs. can
i transfer data to my drive f, which which has a fat file
system and then move back to ntfs without problems?

Yes, just like you can copy from a floppy disk, or a CD
You will lose any NTFS attributes (encryption, compression, security)
