Once the shutdown process has been initiated, it can't be stopped. However, it might be better for you to use the 'Welcome' screen, if you have it turned off. Click Start > Run Type "control userpasswords" (without quotes) Click "Change the way users log on or off" Tick "Use welcome screen" With the Welcome screen on, you get a much simpler shutdown dialog.
