I'm had it with spammers. I'm interested in having spammers tracked down and
terminated. Yes, I want them killed, and their equipment destroyed.

Anyone wanna help?

While your stated goal is a bit "over the top", your intent is good.
We can not get rid of SPAMers, but I think that we can help the
situation by making it more difficult for them.

To that end, I routinely send complaints to their ISP. I get enough
replies stating that this person's account has now been closed that it
makes me feel like I am helping.

Yes, I know that they can then just go to another ISP, but if hundreds
of us share in this quest, it will make SPAMing much less attractive
and more costly. My philosophy is that every little bit counts and
that if you are not part of the solution, you are part of the problem.

I salute your efforts. What do you suggest that people can do to help
you?

First we need to set up a fund, reward money. Then we put the word out.
Anyone who successfully tracks down and kills a spammer gets a reward, say a
million dollars.

This is totally inappropriate for both newsgroups it has been posted to.
If you wish to join the "militant" anti-spam crew, check out the SPEWS

Go have a beer Jess and calm down. We're in good hands. Bill Gates
himself has said in, I think, 2 years he forsees spam no longer
existing. ;)

I use spamassassin. Spamming will almost always be impossible to stop, but
I use spamassassin to filter it out. I also try to report it. That's
about all I can do.

I just scan their servers for exploits and open ports, then I post the
information everywhere hackers and skript kiddies lurk so that they can
all have fun ;)

The address for complaints, I assume one has to do a 'whois' enquiry
to get it.

I say we just kill the spammers. Track them down and kill them one by one.
Any volunteers?

You might get more volunteers if you posted this to all of the
newsgroups and sent out some mass mailings.

....just a thought.

Best food around. I especially like the eggs and spam,
bacon eggs and spam, and the BLT and spam sandwich.

Mmmm.

[tk@hybris:~]$ whois -h whois.abuse.net digiserv.net
abuse/AT-digiserv.net (for digiserv.net)
postmaster/AT-digiserv.net (for digiserv.net)

(purposely munged for posting)

Whois is available on both *nix and winnt.. not sure about 9x (I don't
think it comes with this).

Note also, that whois is a commandline tool so you would need to execute
the command from a windoze "command prompt".

Alternatively to cmdline... I did write a simple windoze app a while
back.. I don't have access to a windoze box right now so no work has been
done on it it a while, but if it's of any interest to you:

<http://forum.digiserv.net/viewtopic.php?t=106>

'QuickWhois 0.0.4'

This also has an 'nslookup' feature too for hostname->IP / IP->hostname
lookups too. Tbh, I can't remember the situation on whois servers in the
app, whether I left it editable by the user or not (fixed list).. but it
may be of some use if you prefer GUI to console. It's free software too =)

Ian
