stopping sounds

I have XP and a turtle beach santa cruz sound card. I
want to turn off all sounds that occur as windows &
programs open, close etc. I have gone into sounds,
settings and chosen "no sounds" and applied and restarted
many times but I still get the sounds. I play music files
and these sounds are always way louder than the music so
very annoying
 
in the sounds window did you click on save as button and
give your scheme a name?

You need to continue the same thread and quote other suggestions/ We
don't know what your problem is other than something to do with
stopping sounds, or the suggestions you've tried.
