Stopping nags

In pursuit of anti rootkit software I may accidentally have found a way
to disable nags.

I've installed the DiamondCS Process Guard, which restricts the right of
software to run, based on user responses. Because I've gone off Norton -
speed disk seems to have problems with modern drives - I'd started to
use Diskeeper lite and, by virtue of a considered response to Process
Guard's request, I have permanently denied showhtml.exe from running,
each time I defrag my drives.

The only difficulty I've had is that Process Guard has twice sent my
browser to their site. This might worry some people I suppose. The last
time was a few days ago, and it's happened twice in 9 days.

For me the disadvantage is outweighed by the multiple benefits, although
to be sure of stopping rootkits in their tracks the full version is
needed.
