Recently I booted XP and a little popup window suggested that XP
should remove the icons I had not used recently from my desktop.
No. Is there a list of such supposedly helpful tasks XP is going
to ask to perform? Is there a way to permanently get rid of some
of them?

I do NOT mean the popup ads from messenger, I have a hardware
firewall. I do NOT mean the popup descriptions of icons.

Desktop properties >> desktop >> customize desktop
uncheck the cleanup wizard

Don't know of a 'list'... you just have to turn things off as they become
annoying

Thanks, I'll try that.
